I'm used to the old Aptana 2. When I opened a new file it loaded to the same program window. Now with aptana 3 beta when attempting to open a new file it wants to open a new program window and new workbench. I want to change this back.

This was supposedly fixed in the last version of Aptana Studio (b16). If you are running that version (look in the about box and make sure you have a build date of early November), please reopen the linked ticket with any related information, and we'll take a look:

    https://aptana.lighthouseapp.com/projects/35272/tickets/1144-open-w...

The ticket refers to OSX, but supposedly the fix is cross-platform. Closing the discussion here so it can be continued on the Lighthouse ticket.

    Best,
    Ingo

    1) Open About Aptana. Look for the build date. It should be somewhere in early November.
    2) If it's not, update Aptana Studio to the latest version (Help > Check for updates). Try to see if the issue is then resolved.
    3) If it is, then click onto the attached ticket link and add any relevant information about your operating system or setup. We'll take a look.

    Thanks!
    Ingo

I checked the ticked but the problem described there is not what happens at
me. Aptana opens every file but in a new window instead of a new tab. Also
there is always some kind of problem with a certain "PortableGit".

I've been running the beta for a while on my mac, and I havent had any issues with it trying to open up files in a new instance, however on my work Windows 7 64bit laptop it always tries to open any new files in a new instance.

Im running the latest beta on both machines.

That ticket seems to point back to here?

Agree. It happens on Win 7, Aptana Studio 3 Beta, build: 3.0.0.201011100254.

Incredible. This issue goes back to 2009, in version 2.0 and is still not resolved in 3.0.

I'm uninstalling as we speak. Enough is enough.

    Hi Everyone,

I have posted a workaround at the bottom of this ticket.

Please let us know if this works for you. We'll hopefully fold this fix into an update shortly, after some more testing.

The workaround works as expected and is built into the 3.0.2 installer. Please reopen this discussion if the workaround does not work for you, or if you still have problems after reinstalling with a 3.0.2 version when that appears. Affected users can either:

    https://aptana.lighthouseapp.com/projects/35272/tickets/23

    a) Install a new version when 3.0.2 comes out.
    b) Perform the workaround as suggested above.

The workaround is very easy, and is the suggested approach. Apologies this took so long.
